I panicked and took off the memory card and tried it on my laptop but then it won't even recognize the card at all. Sometimes he does, and sometimes he doesn't. Nothing seemed to fix either problem. Many thanks. It saved the day and saved at least hundreds of dollars in unneeded repairs that I was expecting. Source I did the steps last night, and waited this morning to turn it on praying that the Err message is gone.

See the Troubleshooting section of your D80 instruction manual, specifically the bottom of page 132.Jerry Litynski , Oct 06, 2008; 12:58 a.m. But I'll scope out prices on proper electronics cleaners and see if it's worth a try.A local camera shop will be the next stop. Took a shot, it captures my monitor and this page, then it went back to error. Is it fixable? I believe the ERR message is either an overheated sensor (which is not mine since I don't use my D600 for video) or a faulty shutter mechanism. BUT it seems there is definitely something wrong with your camera, if when set to continuous it will take only one image, and none in single shot.

An r40 means there are approximately 40 frames that can be shot in continuous release mode before it has to wait until writes to flash are complete.
I gently bent it back with my hand and it works perfectly. Sometimes it turns out to be the shutter, or the mirror, or the lens/communication, or the memory card, or probably half a dozen other things. I don't think to buy a new one - from this brand. solution given work.
