I have Windows 8 on my laptop as I didn't trust to put the free upgrade of Windows 10 on my laptop and it turns out I made the right decision. To prevent damage to the speakers and to prevent fuses from blowing in the future, keep the following items in mind when using the computer: Turn off the speaker volume control This is a REAL pain in the butt - WHEN will Microsoft fix this?? So- for other sufferers- Start, Services, Windows Audio, (I stopped and started both) rebooted-then, in screen lower right, ^, rt-click speaker icon, Playback Devices, Speakers,Properties,Enhancements, check Enable Loudness EQ and Enable Source

There are, however, a couple of things you missed. it didn't work... Working... We even reinstalled the old drivers for skype but that didn't work so it's a catch 22.
